Thunderbird 45.2.0 on Mac running very slowly getting emails and in sending emails. What can I do?

Takes forever to download new messages and to send I have to click send then cancel and send again to get email to send.

there appears to be a trend in folk on Mac complaining about things being slow. But I have no clear answer for you.

Try the diagnosis steps listed here https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Memory_Usage_Problems#Diagnosis_Steps Perhaps they will shed some light on this otherwise black spot.
